Madison, Wisconsin, May 15, 2024 — Intact Solutions has been awarded a project by the U.S. Department of Energy to integrate the Modular Finite Element Method (MFEM) library developed by Lawrence Livermore into its Intact.Simulation platform. The Intact.Simulation platform eliminates the need for meshing and preprocessing, greatly reducing the time and cost of simulation for complex geometry and material models. As such, it is widely used in generative design simulation-based workflows for Additive Manufacturing (AM), particularly for complex components used in aerospace, defense, automotive, and consumer products. Modern AM parts are often designed with heterogeneous representations consisting of traditional CAD and Implicit formats for lattice structures and require advanced thermo-mechanical simulations.
Bringing MFEM’s HPC capabilities into Intact.Simulation will significantly expand the platform’s capabilities, making advanced AM design workflows even more accessible and scalable. The project will leverage mathematical libraries in MFEM to explore vast design spaces that are characterized by non-linear multi-physics multi-million degrees of freedom systems. These libraries will be seamlessly integrated into Intact.Simulation, which is recognized for its ease of use, flexibility, automation, and superior robustness, to scale generative design and topology optimization workflows.
